BBC Own It

Privately’s OWAS SDK helps power the Own It app and keyboard. Already in use by tens of thousands of children in the UK- Own IT is helping young people safely navigate today’s changing digital environment and supporting their digital wellbeing.

The product has two key parts—a custom keyboard that uses machine learning to help children navigate apps and social networks safety through the detection of risks and threats in real time and contextual real-time support and education resources provided to children.

A management system allows the editorial team to add content to the app tailored to topical events like the Coronavirus pandemic. Combined with sentiment analysis from the keyboard this allows the app to provide direct support to users on topics as soon as they emerge; all without any information on the user’s input leaving their device.
